International players can now apply for U.S. Visas as a professional ‘League of Legends’ player. This is the biggest news for the e-Sports community as professional League of Legends players is now officially recognized and can apply for a working visas. Its because of this step, League of Legends is officially recognized as a sport.
Riot Games’ e-Sports manager Nick Allen said to Gamespot,”The United States government recognizes League of Legends pro players as professional athletes and award visas to essentially work in the United States under that title. This is groundbreaking for e-Sports.”
He continued,”We can start looking at international players when they come over. It’s a much easier process because they’re actually recognized by the government. This was a lengthy process. We had a lot of people fighting for this. It wasn’t something that happened overnight.”
League of Legends Season 3 World Championship will be held on 16th September in LA and will conclude on 4th October, with the first prize is $1 Million in cash and the Summoner’s cup.
For those who don’t know, League of Legends was a game made by Riot Games and its a Multiplayer online free-to-play game inspired by DOTA (Defense of the Ancients).
