AMD has fallen from #2 to #4 due to a slowdown in PC sales and strong growth in consumption of smartphones and tablets. The companies were also been #2 in supplies of processors just behind Intel since the 90s, but AMD lost its streak due to strong demand for smartphones and tablets in the various price range and innumerable manufacturing companies in many tier levels.
But in the list of multiprocessor suppliers, only Intel and AMD supply x86 processors for desktop PCs and Servers, whereas the rest have licensed from ARM to make processors for their mobile devices.
Intel has a share of 65.3% in 2012, and the second place is held by Qualcomm which has 9.4% share in the worldwide market. Qualcomm enjoyed 28% increase, but not as impressive as Samsung who has enjoyed 78% increase in MPU sales since 2011. AMD, on the other hand, has a loss of 21%.
