AMD India Launches FirePro APU and cards under S & W Series Edit (09-11-12)

After AMD retiring the FireStream line-ups, the following series line-up are released:

S7000
S9000
W600
W5000

Both series are based on Tahiti and Pitcairn GPU cores which uses GEN 3, made to support OpenCL, OpenGL and DirectX and AMD is the sole manufacturer of these cards with 3 years of warranty period.

As one would expect, AMD has emphasizing on power efficiency on their graphic cards. AMD uses PowerZero technology which basically reduces the power consumption upto 95% in idle by shutting down the GPU.

W600 is a solution emphasizing on multi screen display walls for digital billboard posters/menus, command & Control, Operation or Processor control centres, conferences, presentations, informational displays and for simulation and training. This card has overlap support for upto six projectors, maximum support of 4096 x 2304 resolution per display and uses PCIEe 3.0.

W5000 is primarily built for 3D design professionals to do complex designs that require 1.27 TFLOPs of computing power. When it comes to performance per dollar, AMD assures that this is the best you can get, with an eyefinity support of upto 3 displays. W7000 is made for CAD/CAE and media professionals looking out for a single slot solution that provides 2.43 TFLOPs of computing power and offers the eyefinity support with 4 displays and GeometryBoost+ 4GB GDDR5 memory which helps to crunch details for large model rendering performance numbers.

W8000 provides upto 3.23 TFLOPS with eyefinity support upto 4 displays. The W9000- as AMD calls it as “Ultra High-End Juggernaut” provides 3.99 TFLOPs of computing and 6 GIGS of memory powering up the eyefinity support of upto 6 display panels.

These cards uses GCN architecture which (as AMD says) provides the industry’s fastest single and double precision compute without sacrificing graphic performance in a single card. This card also GeometryBoost. 
There’s also FirePro A300 APU which are single chip processors made specifically for entry and mainstream level workstations, providing a support of 10,240 x 1600 resolution and dedicated universal video decoder for processing H.264/MPEG4 via GPU so that this way THE CPU is free for other tasks.

Although the prices for S series wasn’t disclosed at this time, the following prices are for W series:

Edit (09-11-12): Curiosity creeps in when you start noticing things- such as the price difference for W9000 between USD and INR. If you convert $3,999 to INR with a value of Rs. 56/-, Rs. 2,23,944- about $1,358/ Rs. 76,056. Although these are MRP, that’s a very large amount for an MRP.

Also, the test bed system used Intel setups in them to run the card in full capacity. W5000- the card that AMD is trying to push ahead- uses a system built with Intel 2600K, 16Gigs 1866 G Skill Vengeance kits and Asus ROG Maximum 4 Gene motherboard. One would imagine- that a company who makes CPUs/APUs/GPUs and introduced a Firepro card like this, they would release a processor which can match 2600K on stock/OC with regards to Single threaded performance.
