AMD is completing its final preparations to its 2.5″ SSD Radeon R7 drives with three storage variants- 120, 240 and 480GB. They’ll be using SATA 6GB/s.
The drives will be using the Barefoot 3 M00 controller paired with 19nm Toshiba MLC NAND and maintain 7mm z-axis. AMD posted a comparison with certain drives, such as HyperX 3K and SanDisk Extreme Pro drives. What’s stands out is that the drive comes with 4 years warranty support, that a year extra in comparison with mainstream consumer-class SSDs.
The R7 240GB variant has an advertised max read speed of up to 550MB/s and writes to up to 530MB/s. But will this new venture be profitable for AMD in long-term without shifting attention to its existing product variants, is something time will tell.
