Broadcom recently introduced a new cost effective 5G Wi-Fi controllers to comply with 802.11 ac standard, specifically for PCs, notebooks, tablets and smartphones- BCM43162 and BCM4339.
Broadcom says that both chips offer the same range, performance benefits and performance as their 5G Wi-Fi flagship chip BCM4335. But what’s more is that comes with a power amplifier and low noise amplifier. the 3162 chip will be used in PCIe option for PCs and notebooks with Windows OS, whereas 4339 is for smartphones and tablets powered either with Windows or Android OS.
The features are as follows:
- Integrated 5G Wi-Fi PA and LNA technology to allow small form factor designs and reduced total BOM.
- Transmit beamforming and low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes for greater coverage and robust wholehouse media and data applications.
- 433Mbps Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) PHY rate for superior speed.
- Broadcom proprietary TurboQAM® for 33 percent increase in 2.4GHz speed.
- Broadcom proprietary Channel Smoothing WLAN PHY to increase receiver sensitivity by an average of 2 db across 802.11n and 802.11ac rates.
- Specific to the BCM4339, Broadcom is the only vendor to offer Long Term Evolution (LTE) coexistence.
Currently, Broadcom’s Wi-Fi 5G chip is used in Samsung Galaxy S4 and on HTC one, followed by LG Digital TV and in Asus ROG G75VW gaming notebook. Broadcom;s 5G chips are also used in Belkin, Buffalo, Cisco, D-Link, Edimax and few other router manufacturers.
