OCLab.RU got their hands on an Intel Haswell engineering sample and ran few benchmarks to compare it with Intel i7 processor.
The following test bench was used:
- Intel Core Haswell @ 2.8 GHz/ Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge @2.8 GHz
- Corsair Dominator @ 1333 MHz 9-9-9-27
- Power supply Corsair AX1200
- Corsair Neutron 240 GB SSD
- Windows 7 x64
The following are the numbers:
SuperPi 32M is where Haswell really shines by maintaining 21.589 seconds in comparison with Ivy-Bridge i7 3770K @ 2.8GHz clock speed set on both processors.
PiFast is a multi-threaded benchmark so it managed to do better in comparison with Haswell using the same clock speed. Haswell does well in SuperPi 32M runs, but when talking about SuperPi 1M, its slower in comparison with Ivy bridge.
Its too early to speculate if this is the real deal. Do note that engineering samples are not the final make of a product and/or don’t represent the actual numbers that retail packs will reflect. Still, you can guess how the 4th generation Intel core series performs to a certain extent. But looking at the data at hand it looks like Haswell is more suited for Multi-threaded applications.
