Intel recently updated their Ultra small form factor NUC lineup with kits modeled D34010WYK with i3-4010U and D54250WYK with i5-4250U processor, both paired with QS77 chipset. The previous generation NUC kit, though it still has a footprint of 4.59″ x 4.41″, its become slimmer as its now 1.36″ as compared to first gens with 1.55″ thick units.
The i5 based NUC unit has Hyperthreading and Turbo with CPU clock of 2.6GHz, whereas i3 unit comes only with Hyper-threading and clocked at 1.7GHz. Both units use Intel HD Graphics 5000 series. Other than that, these 2 units have mini display output, followed by mini HDMI, 4x USB 3.0, Intel controller powered gigabyte Ethernet port, audio jacks and IR reader.
You will have to buy your own storage, SO-DIMM memory and Wi-Fi, but the mini PCI express slots are for mSATA solid state drives and wireless cards.
It should also be noted that Gigabyte also updated their Brix units as well, which Gigabyte India have collected feedbacks on what few selected people think about NUCs in India (previous generation NUC units were not available in India). There’s no word if and/or when other manufacturers will be following the same path. In any case, there’s no price update…yet!
