2x 4GB HyperX Blu memory kits. Low profile heatspreaders with a lifetime warranty to boot. No need to say anything more from this point on!

This is the review for Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB kit.

Packaging and Specifications

The memory kit’s default timings are 9-9-9-27.

Nothing new, Kingston follows the same Standard packaging in their HyperX series.

I personally prefer low profile heatspreaders. Not any reason specifically, its just that if I overclock a memory kit, I find a fan set to blow air over the rams is more effective than heatspreaders in the long run.

So let’s jump to it, then!!

Test Setup and Benchmarks

There are few stuff that are changed here. The older board Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H+ AMD 550BE is replaced with Asus 990FX Sabertooth provided by Asus India and AMD 965BE provided by a very good friend. Asus’ Direct CUII 6950 and Corsair’s 500R is under evaluation. This kit is compared with KHX1600C9D3P1K28G HyperX Genesis on the benchmarks. Do note that the benchmark scores on the graphs are tested on Asus 990FX Sabertooth. The motherboard by default ran these memory @ 1.65v

Moving on, tried on overclocking and this is what I was able to get:

1600MHz 8-8-8-24 @1T Failed during Boot
1600MHz 9-8-8-24 @1T Failed during Boot
1600MHz 9-9-8-24 @1T Success/Passed all Benchmarks
1600MHz 9-9-9-24 @1T Success/Passed all Benchmarks
1708MHz 9-9-9-24 @1T Success/Passed all Benchmarks
1750MHz 9-9-9-24 @1T Success/Passed all Benchmarks
1800MHz 9-9-9-24 @1T No Boot

These rams were detected as 9-9-9-24 @1T by default alongwith the voltage, about 1.643v according to the Bios. I had to set the frequency to 1600MHz manually though. I was able to get about 150MHz bump on the memory kit, viz. pretty good since Kingston aims the HyperX Blu series for hardware enthusiasts and for entry-level gaming setup. I wouldn’t be shocked if I see memory kits with same default configuration and fancy heatspreaders but not able to bump up the memory kits- or worse even overclock it.

That being said I always prefer to have fans blow air over the memory kits, especially if they are overclocked. There are cases out there, like 500R, that lets you install a fan on the top, either above the MOSFET/CPU area and/or near the DIMM slots area. There are also ways to use cable ties and have a fan mounted on the memory kits- whatever rocks your boat. Its my recommendation to have overclocked memory kits to be cooled nicely.

These are very nice kits. The HyperX Genesis dominates over HyperX Blu on PCM Vantage’s Memory benchmark and when compared to stocks on AIDA64.

Yeah, I need to find the INR prices. But these kits are pretty cheap and I was able to use them on AMD setup as well. You need a good memory for a low price? Well these are pretty neat price so something you can shortlist. Kingston provides a lifetime (Product’s lifetime) warranty.
