NAS SSDs… a bit head of its time?

Network storage is required to have higher endurance and reliability over speed. We’d just have to wait for WD’s variants to come out and see if it performs anywhere close. The question, however, is the price-per-capacity as it is very subjective to the user. It has to start somewhere. It starts with Seagate Ironwolf 110 series.

Seagate made he Ironwolf 110 NAS SSD from scratch, specifically built for NAS workloads. Most NAS users wouldn’t necessarily find this appealing, with the exception for those with heavy media workload requirements. Therefore the value of the drive depends on the user and the application. Clearly, PC users wouldn’t be considering these option as conventional 240-256GB SATA SSDs costs well under $69.99.

The NAS SSD does have a secondary use, acting as an SSD Cache option for Hybrid NAS units.

  • Large capacity variants
  • High Endurance Rating
  • Proprietary monitoring tool enabled via selected NAS
  • 5-year warranty with 2-year backup recovery plan
  • Expensive option for NAS storage
Backup recovery option is only available in certain countries/ locations
