WD launches Sentinel DX4000

I know that people some know that I am very enthusiastic about SSD and this year’s Computex simply reinvigorated it. There are few things that caught my attention in this year’s Computex if I keep SSDs away for a moment- Windows 8 and the desktop/Ultrabooks with it and Network Storage- For Professional- Small, Medium or Large business- and even for personal uses.

WD Launched Sentinel DX4000 to serve SMBs as a Centralized Storage, Back and Restore base for up to 25 Network Devices. By default, the unit comes with Intel D525 Atom CPU with 2gigs of ram and Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials. This is a plug-and-play Solution, as assured by WD and it comes with RAID 1-to-5 with a daily backup option for up to 25 devices, dual Gigabit Ethernet with Adaptive Fault Tolerance and 2X USB 3.0 ports. However, do note that the unit offers RAID 1 with 2 drives only and RAID 5 with 3-4 drives, 2 drive units are pre-configured with RAID 1 and anything more is pre-configured for RAID 5.

WD does provide an optional small business cloud via their own disaster recovery software. Sentinel DX4000 is hooked with KeepVault’s offsite data storage service. This feature will be pre-installed but you’ll need to activate it should you require it.

Furthermore, there are 3 optional service: WD Guardian Express where it offers next-day parts Replacement service including Shipping and Handling costs, WD Guardian Pro that gives a 1 year support agreement that assures express parts replacement and priority access to tech support and Guardian Extended Care- which extends product’s warranty from its standard 3 years to 5 years warranty period.

WD didn’t clarify the cost of the service but they did provide the MRP of the drive. 4TB will cost you Rs. 64,999/-, Rs. 69,999/- for 6TB, 89,999/- for 8TB and Rs. 99,999/- for 12TB units- excluding taxes.
