Western Digital WD640BEVT 5400RPM Notebook Storage Hard Drive

Its been an interesting month so far now that I am spending a lot of time with notebook storage devices. Some made a good impression as an OEM drive, and couple of them was something you will consider as an aftermarket upgrade.

5400RPM Drives- do they still have the gas to push it or will be a drive that would simply be installed in notebooks by default? Western Digital sends the 640GB Scorpio Blue.

Thr drive comes 88i9045-tfj2 controller (as on the Velociraptop and Scorpio Black) with Texas instruments’ 88i9045-tfj2 motor controller and Samsung’s 8MB Cache.

Conclusions
About 65-67MB in approx in tests that we have seen??

Its surely one of those drives that will be installed on notebooks by default. If you’re going to upgrade your notebook drive, there are faster drives for somewhat decent performance-per-price. It is probably one of the cheapest you would get, but then again you can’t stack notebook drives internally like how you do on Desktops. Storage space is a pro if you get this with certain lower end notebooks but as an upgrade, other drives will be a default choice. I am sure this would have been a winner between 1-2 years ago, but now there are much better choices even as a 7200RPM standard drives. When you have to move on with the times, make the most of it.

You can also grab this drive if you’re planning to get a drive and Install it on a USB 2.0 enclosure. 640GB drives, cheapest out of the lot. This drive comes with 3 years warranty period.
