Pricing situation

For making this into a valid argument, I’ll make the comparison between ZOTAC GTX 1070 Ti AMP!, GTX 1070 Ti AMP! Extreme and the GTX 1080 Founder’s edition.

Cheapest GTX 1080

India US UK
 ₹ 58,200/-  $ 519.99  £ 479.97

India US UK
 Rs 46,995/-  $ 469.99  £423.98

ZOTAC GTX 100 Ti AMP! Extreme

India US UK
 Rs 47,887/- $ 499.99  £ 449.97

The above GTX 1080 prices are SKUs from different regions. The pricing belongs to respective manufacturers and the cheapest I could find on Amazon. In India, ZOTAC GTX 1080 AMP! Extreme costs cheaper than its founder’s edition, while its MSI GTX 1080 Armor OC in the US and GIGABYTE GTX 1080 OC WF3 in the UK.

The AMP! is cheaper by a small margin which makes AMP! Extreme looks like a good deal. But the GTX 1070 AMP! is a much smaller unit with two fan cooling. Thanks to Nvidia, none of the GTX 1070 Ti cards are going to be out-of-the-box factory overclocked. AMP! Extreme is known to provide the highest factory clocked versions with a good cooling system and a good enough pricing. There’s also a warranty extension post registration for five years. Since one of the key selling points is thrown out the window, the only bare minimum guarantee ZOTAC can give is +150 MHz base clock and +200 MHz memory clock via manual overclocking. On the bright side, it is giving a bare minimum assurance in its page.

The valuable question…

You are paying a much higher premium than the GTX 1070 to achieve somewhat near GTX 1080 performance.  What makes it more difficult to decide is the limited choices of AAA PC titles and the upcoming launch of the newer generation graphics architecture by next year. It is a big investment which will stick with you for a few years. If you’re not going to have regrets to stay with a card for a long time, the ZOTAC GTX 1070 Ti AMP! Extreme makes a good deal. On load even with manual overclocks, the ZOTAC GTX 1070 Ti AMP! Extreme draws lesser power. Due to its design, the cooling is effective and reasonably silent.

If you are not going to overclock, the ZOTAC GTX 1070 Ti AMP! is a better choice. Even though it runs on standard base/boost clock, the effectiveness of the GPU cooler will ensure the maximum use of boost clock as much as possible. Despite the arguments, a non-reference open airflow design is more effective than blower design that Founder edition uses.

Disclosure: The GTX 1070 Ti AMP! Extreme is loaned by Zotac The story of the GTX 1070 Ti Things have evolved to paint a better picture now that AMD is having an active participation in the CPU and discrete graphics market. AMD Radeon VEGA had its flaws. There are also issue relating its availability and non-reference editions. Regardless, the RX Vega 56 was enough to spook Nvidia. As a result, we see the GTX 1070 Ti. Competition of any kind is good for the consumers! While it is placed between two variants, GTX 1070 Ti seems closer towards GTX 1080's…
